Did i hear of talk at one stage about ready made sub frames?

I am strongly considering doing the 4EFTE conversion in a rover.

If i got a premade subframe, would this be harder to get engineered as they would not be following the exact build up of the subframe?

What sorts of total costs would i be looking at in doing the Conversion plus roadworthiness?

And... where do i start

have not seen starlet ones...

There are premade Vtec frames.. BUT there is only one worth getting as you do not have to change the lengh of the front guards or move the steering rack.

The Kits are avail. from NZ.. I got the dets somewhere in this computer

Last I heard you were dead against doing engine conversions, willy. What happened to them 'not being a real mini' when you put a non-mini engine in them?

For a very basic conversion... I dont think you would have any change from 8k miniumum..

I don't agree.

Front Cut ($1500), minus bits you might sell
Frame ($1500). $500 if you do it yourself
Fuelling ($300)
Braking ($200)
Shafts ($500)
Electrical ($500)

Other stuff $1000

Well I disagree with you stripped... I like you dont get me wrong..

But what about a Engineers certificate... There is $500 - $1,000

Frame is more like $3k if you aint doing it yourself..

Plus then you have a exhaust system to put in...

Most people would have to buy bigger rims.. As you need atleast 12's...

And you know all the lil bits & peices you quote $1000 for I would quote more like 2k.. things add up quick...

In the end I guess you could save a little from 8k if you do it all yourself...

but if not... Its all about how far you gooo.... & what you can & cant doo..

Brakes only $200 ????

Rule of thumb for these budgets is add up all the items on your list,
and then double it to cover the "misc" items

Listen to Dean & others who have been there, done that

Well speaking from someone who is doing it all out of necessity I have racked up about 8K already now that includes non essentials like cool seats, but equally doesn't include the metro brakes which I already had. Subframe cost me about $300 in materials. Yeah so minimum 7-8K if you do everything yourself, otherwise I could see no change out of 10K. My 2c...

Cheers

Matt

Brakes - This if for brake lines that need to be made. Not changing of anything else in the braking section - As the question related to SUBFRAME MODIFICATION/ENGINE CONVERSION. I did not make the assumption we should be 'guessing' he needed to change from drums to discs.

"Dean & Others". - You CAN spend way too much. If you are smart about it you can achieve a result without over-capitalising. One doesn't need to have a " million dollar beast".

AWDMOKE, I have "been there, done that". There is no need to imply there are those that are more learned on the topic.

Let us stick to the question "How much will an engine substitution cost" nd not speculate on what else you think needs to be done.

I must admit, i'd LOVE to do a V-TEC (B16A) jobbie on a Mini, but i just don't have the skills needed to build my own 'frame/modify the mini one.

Can someone supply the details of this ready-made frame? Costs? Mods Needed?

I want one BAD.

Oh of course i am.
It'll be a toyota once its done, not a Mini (rover   )

Just thoughts at the moment.

Have you been in a 4EFTE'd car?
fiddle sticks do they ever pull
Hills hooning in a Toy last night has pushed my buttons to investigate this further.

Plus, even 10K would be manageable.
So would the approx 10k be most things done by other people.
I cannot weld (that would suffice an engineer, anyway) , i'll admit that.
I am good at running around between places, (ask Brickworx  ) ,, so everything doesnt have to be done at one place.

Does the ~10 include full engineering, full road worthy car that functions 100%.

I'm getting excited just thinking about it :)

willy I am keeping a fairly accurate price list on my website. But alas this is for me doin' it myself. But equally I think $10K would cover everything inc rego and engineering irrespective of DIY or get someone else, as long as you are sticking strictly to converting the engine and things specifically related to this if they are necessary and you don't have them like brakes.

Any other views...
