Hi Guys!

I noticed all of you doing the Starlet conversion are using the later EP82 engine. Just wondering, is this engine bigger than that from the EP71 Starlet?

My friend is getting rid of his EP71 Starlet for free, with perfect engine, gearbox, etc.. just bad body. I am considering taking this off his hands to put in a Mini, however am worried that the engine may not fit.

Here's a pic of the EP71's engine bay:

Thanks!!

Have a look at thegreat job done by some of the other boys on this forum
- it's no easy task, but it can be done.

Lots of things need moving around, and you will need an engineers cert.,
but it's well worth doing 8)

Nah, it won't fit. I'll take it off your mate's hands for nothing.

Before I get flamed again, I'm JOKING!!!

Seriously, go for it! There is no reason why it wouldn't fit. The EP71 actually looks more compact but I think most guys use the EP82 simply because it is more powerful. I have seen EP71 starlets with an EP82 Turbo engine fitted.

If you do decide it is all too hard, I would be very interested in talking to your mate. :)

Cheers,

Go for it, ive seen both motors up close and the gearbox is the same size as the N/A 4efe so the box is slightly smaller than the 4efte plus the drive shafts are smaller going into the gearbox so there is less cutting on the subframe

the engine specs arnt to bad either i think its got around 80-85kw but simular torque to the 4efte

Most EP71 owners put in a 4efte if they blow up their engine....but i dont think they're too bad, and hell, for that price.......

Thanks for the response guys. Decided I've got nowhere no put this Starlet, so I won't be taking it off him. However, if you guys are interested you can contact my mate on 0432300130. His name is Pete. Most likely, he won't give it to you for free, but I'm sure he'll take offers of around $600 for it. It needs a roof, sparkplugs, turbo, intercooler and a clutch. He has a brand new turbo and intercooler for it, but I think he wants around 2k for the car, turbo and intercooler. Feel free to enquire, he's a reasonable bloke. Will make for a cheap conversion. He is located in Essendon area (VIC).
