bigbores and smallbores have different needs when it comes to cams right?
whats the difference and what cams are good for what purpose?
whats the power band of a re-13?
whats the power band of a re-282?
whats a sw5 like?

Bigger motors can tolerate more cam duration without getting too `cammy'.
In a big block,
RE-13 the power hits hard around 2500-2700, pulls hard to 7000- more top end from 5000 up to 7500 with 1.5 rockers.

RE282 I dunno yet, hope it hits before 3000.... :? 8)

SW5 I've heard pulls from zero to 6000. Good road cam they reckon.

80lb/ft from 998cc is some serious torque for the given displacement!
Whats the curve like ? is it flat.

I came across this Elgin 649 on ebay - does the claim "best mini grind ever made" stack up?

Well the 649 was and is a damned fine cam, regardless of who grinds it.
It's the benchmark and many people still race with it.
Dunno about the `best Mini grind ever made' bit though. If so there has been NO cam progress in the last 40? years.
