is it worth getting a fuel cell? they are rupture-proof...safer? worth the hassle? its either that or get a right hand tank...and cut a hole in the body (ick)...advice appreciated

If you are building a racing car you would go for the tank that will work best for racing (probably not the "bling bling" fuel cell)
How much fuel do you need to carry?
What is the best for weight distribution?
What tank is not going to surge in cornering?
Which tank is going to pick up all the fuel in the tank and not suck air when you have 20 litres left?
Which tank is cheaper? (the money you save on one part can be spent on making the car faster!)

Most important..... Which tank are you allowed to run in the type of racing that you want to do?

how much fuel? not heaps but more than the standard tank would be nice
weight distribution? i would think the fuel cell...just depends where you mount it...i was thinking the middle of the boot was a good idea...could be wrong though
surge on cornering? fuel cells use some sort of spoungie honeycomb stuff in the part where they actually store the fuel dont they? i would have thought that would have kept surge to a minimum...yet again...i dont know and could be wrong
air pickup? i have no idea about this at all
cheaper? definitely the standard tank
which type of racing? i was under the impression that fuel cells were highly regarded in racing circles and held in higher regard atleast than standard jerry-can style fuel tanks like the standard mini ones...yet again...not sure...

if anyone could clarify these for me i'd be most appreciative

Some of the guys that do track days might be able to tell you if they have problems with the standard mini tanks but I don't remember any comments.

Most fuel supply problems seem to come from the float bowls on the SUs if I remember correctly hard cornering causes fuel starvation Anyone.....

i have considered the dual tank option...but dont really wanna go cutting holes in the body if i can avoid it plus i'd heard that fuel cells were safer due to their rupture-proof-ness

Maybe get a fake right hand tank (one that has been made out of a left hand tank) and take the fuel filler neck off there has to be a balance pipe so that tanks level out right so you could go on using the one filler.

I said a fake right hand tank cause if you are going to modify it you may as well use an old left hand one and leave the right hand one for someone else

yes race fuel cells have foam inthem ..... how do i know long storie but something along the lines of grab the fuel churn from back of truck 4th lap car starts missing mal is like what the fiddle sticks is going on see's the churn is that the churn u guys used .... me yup ... him oh for fiddle sticks sake....
turns out the churn had not been used in five years and he accidently put it in the back of the truck when we fueled the fuel went into the churn and sucked some of the crap out of it into the tank and blocked the fuel pickup ......
6 hours later and many head spins ...as we had to pull the fuel cell apart to clean it for the 12 hour race on sunday (the leaded has a much more pungent smell than unleaded) yeat but to fit them you need to make up some brakets and crap to hold it in place and thay have varying capacitys

i am still mostly in the planning stage for this whole build and have made a few decisions as far as the first few steps are concerned...the fuel system wont be needed for quite some time...but just thought i'd ask anyway...anyone know how much a decent sized fuel cell costs?

There were some modified LH tanks being sold as RH tanks a while back....
I don't know what it involves though
