once you've sourced some good dry subframes what is actually involved in doing the swap? just get the rubber cones...and then install? or is it more complex than this?

Of course you will also need the dry arms as the wet ones have a slightly different ratio. Other than that it's pretty straight forward.

Just a note that the last step in the conversion is to put the hydro displacers in a box, put my mailing address on it and put it in the post. No worries, I'll gladly cover the postage cost. I'll also be giggling to myself knowing that once you drive the thing you'll really miss the wet ride.

Nah, postage to Canada would be a killer

but be reassured I will gladly take your displacers and your wet subframes

I need some for my deluxe which will be going back to wet suspension

I can drive to Brisbane and pick them up too, so you won't even need to put them in a box!! :wink:

Yes, the swap is fairly straight forward, more so if you swap a complete built dry frame in for the wet one at each end.

Don't forget to rebuild the suspension, and get the subframes powdercoated etc. while the dry subframes are out of the car. You will be kicking yourself later if you don't.

basically what i am planning is to have 2 sets...one wet...one dry...the dry set will have my soon to be purchased 1275 A+ (might end up being bigger after i've done a few things to it) and have my wet ones sitting on the side with my 998 in it...might harvest some bits off the wet subframes too...not sure yet...its just i want to use them as a reference...have them there...fully assembled...and then get the dry ones and move bits over...get new bits...and build them up from scratch...if i like the dry ride i'll think about selling/donating the hydro setup to a worthy cause

if i dont...i may just switch back to wet...

chance favors he with 2 sets of subframes

yeah i was gonna send em off to the powder coater as soon as i source them...then get a set of those spax krypton shockers that come with all the brackets and stuff...nice new subframes with nice new shocks :-D

Um how soon do you need them ?

My deluxe has dry subframes which I won't be needing but they are in the car at the moment but I might swap you for your wet subframes

I haven't had a real hard look at them but they are in working order should hopefully be coming out a bit before Christmas when I'm home and can work on it. :wink:

They are in Armidale (closer to Brissy than Canberra could meet you half way

would you accept money for them instead? not too keen on selling my wet subframes before i know its NOT the way i wanna go...if you want i can get the rail company to pick them up from your house and have them freighted up here...shouldnt cost more than $50 or so to do that, thats what queensland rail quoted me for a 150kg anvil i wanted to get freighted down to me from rocky (door to door)...how much ya want for them?

hmmm...i called up mini pro up this way and he said he could sell me a good pair (powdercoated) for $600 inc. swing arms and rubber cones...not assembled...

the roads around here are fairly smooth...i mean...i am sure that a dry setup with modern shox would be fairly ok around here...wouldnt it?

i am also more concerned about handling rather than total comfort...if i can get better handling out of dry (and less fuss) but less comfort...i'd go dry...

You can use wet subframes, wet top arms with a dry conversion, no problem. We run Barney like this.

Hydro top arms will stiffen the front end a bit but it helps the handling. Lots of racers run this way.

Justminis up in Cairns says he has used wet rear arms too.

FFS use decent shocks though. Barney had crappy old Monroes on, I just swapped them out for new Konis and there is absolutely no comparison. It goes round corners now...

nearly as well as my modded hydro....

my plan is to fit a full set of spax krypton adjustable coilovers...you can get a kit that has them in it for around $1500....

Top arms are the front suspension arms that carry the top ball joint.
Very little dimensional difference between hydro ones and the dry type really.

There's a bottom arm too, but that's not it... :wink:
