I run LED in brake/tail lights and parklights. They work a treat.

In theory, an LED will never blow, unless high current or high voltage passes through them. So in normal operating conditions, they will last forever!

A normal globes filament will eventually break. When a globe lights up, the filament heats up causing it to glow. When it turns off, the filament cools down. The constant heating and cooling makes the filament brittle after time, causing it to break.

We have some trucks at work fitted with LED lights (not LED globes but the complete light) and they mostly work well but there are a couple of brands that have only lasted a couple of months. Dammed expensive when they don't work!

The main reason for using them on trucks is on long trucks (trailers/B doubles) you lose voltage by the time you get to the back of the trailer and the lights are dim. With LEDs they are bright even with a couple of volts! (should work well on a mini with a generator!)

At the prices that site is asking i'd make them myself. Buy a standard globe, a packet of LED's and whip out your soldering iron. Bust the globe and use the bayonet fitting to mount the LED's on.

They are half that price on ebay......but even that price isnt too bad....not worth me stuffing around to try and make them.

I'll definately have some in my mini....when it gets to that stage ;)

A fair bit cheaper at Jaycar electronics - BTW Jaycar has a disclamer that these are not suitable for road use (just off road + show).

To illustrate the cost of LED light assemblies, I recently bought all the lights for my new kart trailer and they cost me $600 and that was with a substantial discount. Not cheap but they never give trouble. We have another trailer that I put some on about 4 years ago and they have never failed to work in all that time.

I got a set of LED repalcements and I put them in then took them out as I was not happy with the output from them as I feel that the Incandensent Bulb allow more ligh to reflect around the lens while the LED only shot the light straight out.

I have been looking at getting the LED Repalcement Board for the Morris Mini with a 3 Screw Lens from Mini Maina but a little expensive.

Yes, Standard dome LED's like the ones shown only disperse and intense beam that isn't viewable from a wide angle. I'm pretty sure they are illegal too because of this.

These ones below are a flat disc type LED..

They disperse the light..

I am in no way associated with this company, though I have seen the quality of their work on show bikes and met the owner in person, nice bloke and knows what he is talking about.
