for hillclimbs you need TORQUE
go the stroker engine - 1100 for torque
go for a cam that has a wide torque band not peak power
single SU for torque
you can port the 12g02 and enlargen the valves, but not by too much cos you want low down torque
then supercharge.. for torque

apart from that, lose as much weight from the car as you can for torque

well if this has wet your appetite for a 998, and you are looking for one, i have 2 o them and both are going up for sale to fund my race engine which is going to be built by someone in the near future. no specs yet but the whole thing will be probably 1310 and include goodies like an lsd and custom inner pot joints etc etc, cant wait!!!

Also depends on how streetable you want the car to be. A 12G940 head, with the block pocketed, coupled with a suitable cam would go fairly hard, but might be a bit much for a street 998, realistically. Want it for the street as well I'd port a 12G202, maybe enlarge the valves to make it more like a 12G295. Put a bit less of a cam in since its a 998.

Sorry Anto but theres no way you can make a 202 as good as the 295, just not possible the 202 is a 'Closed Chamber' head, meaning the valves are heavily shrouded by the combustion chamber walls (& there isn't eniugh metal there to make them the same). A 295 is basically the same as a 940 port & chamber wise and by far the best head for a small bore a series engine ;)

Graham Russell in Sydney builds RACE heads from the 202, says they are better for this than a 295. And has the dyno figures..
You would not call them a `closed chamber' head after he's finished with them though!

Really have spoken too many head modifiers who claim this, but never seen/been shown a head better than a std 295 ! Any pic's ?
