i have an 1100 with extractors, exhaust, stage 2 head (dunno what type or anythin). lets just say everything else is standard (so noone says "it depends what type of bla bla you have") and i was thinking about putting on a webber. I was wondering about how much power this would add, and will my car be able to keep up with say a standard lancer or something?

thank you, i have tried searching around but havnt found any direct answers to my question as yet.

depends what carb your going from..1.25"..maybe 4HP...1.5"..2HP? as a guess....thats just to give you an idea..not accurate by any means..

Will it keep up with a Lancer?...1.5..Maybe..especially considering alot of them can't drive :) ..but generally no...

A 1.8..No. Mine with 50HP atw doesn't beat them by a huge amount..

Sorry Morris 1100 I have both variations, and they are both spelt W-E-B-E-R...
No, thay are not interchangeable- the Italian ones don't cook chicken well!

stuvz, I would not bother with a Weber, until you have done lots of other stuff- port head, fit sports cam, add LCB or freeflow exhaust, etc. THEN think about a carb change.

Well a weber setup and tuned depending i would allow at least $500-600..

I would look for a 1.5" if you dont have one already..they're cheap and will give a noticable increase in power..even a 1/3/4 if you can stretch it..

Next best thing is a cam grind..i suggest RE-13..

Ideally you'd want some head work, but that's blowing your budget i think...

You may be able to get away with:

RE-13
Head Work
1.75" SU

for that money...depending how much work you do and where you shop around..

<goes out on limb> I'd say an RE-13 cam will give 5-7HP on it's own, but really it works best with all the other mods mentioned and you will then get much more.
But a decent cam is essential if you're after power.

<edit> a Weber on it's own with no other mods would be a dog, IMO.

RE-13 will cost you around $120 probably, + post.
Maybe less if you drop it in there personally..
You will also need a new set of cam followers, $75 approx. And a new timing chain...
The list goes one once you get started... :P

Russell Engineering's contact details are in the resources list.

Not to sound negative but you will need to remore the Engine.
Pull it apart, Check everything, Get the cam re-grind and refit engine...Of course you have to clean it up and make it look prity and this also you have to clean up the engine bay...you will kick your self if you don't
A full set of Gaskets will also be required...plus a few other little thing's

You will be so Satified with yourself if you do it yourself, But expect the unexpectted in problems and Expences :!:

Otherwise $$$ for someone to do it for you

Do it yourself and get the experance and the braging rites....but have a car you can drive around for the duration

Actually unlike most 1275, you can do a cam change and new followers in the car, with 850-997-998-1098 and Cooper S. Not that I recommend this unless motor is fairly low mileage and has no other problems....
But... `timing the cam in' (as distinct from lining the dots up) is a PITA- there's very little room to fit and see a degree wheel and it's hard to turn the engine over precisely to check. If you want to do it properly, pull the motor out as Gaf said.

well its a brand spankin reco'd engine with less than 2000 k's. so it aint old. it has a ground cam and new timing chain (but will i have to get a new one to suit the re13 if i choose to get it?)

so knowing this... does anything i have to do change? and i dont really want to pull it out

and is there anything else i can do at the same time, with big benefits, not much effort? (eg. remove 1 thing, put other in place of it... without removing engine)

i'll up my budget to 1500 or something, i dont really care, its only money :P

If it's already got a reground cam leave that but find out what it is from engine builder.
I would take the head off and port it, fit bigger valves, deck it, fit LCB and 1-3/4" exhaust, THEN fit a Weber. If it's a 998 don't make the chokes too big. I'd start with 32s.
