Hmmm... the power of marketing & hearsay!
Interesting how many voted for a Weber and how few for a Dellorto!
Power is much the same, sound is identical, so are filters & manifolds, but there are hundreds of reasons to buy a S/H Dellorto instead (all $$$). :P

So what cars in the wreckers are good sources of HIF SUs?

TBH, I'm a little sick of the 850 bogging down when I hammer it around a corner - with an 850, that's pretty much all the excitement I can get. But I'm not going to tune the 850, just on the lookout for a decent carb for the 998 in my Clubman.

Go Kev - I have 6 dellorto's in the cupboard and not parting with them. All rebuilt and jetted for minis. Got a bit of a collection of bits and pieces so will never run dry.

Webers are good - tried both - prefer the dells though(price and parts)

Infinite tuning with the dellortos as the webers have not got the range of tune as a dellorto(jets and the likes)

MHO only - like the look of a weber better if thats any consolation.

Hooroo

Dell'orto or a Weber any day. A Weber is good over a Dell'orto because less informed people often still know that a Weber is a good performance item, and that any car with a Weber must go fast (even if it is a standard progressive 32DFM or something). Problem is, the insurance companies see it that way too. That's why the Solex copies are good

I've got a 40DHLA on my car and it pulls quite hard on 30mm chokes on a 1098. Big difference over an SU, which is more of a Grandma carb.... Need to source a 45mm for the 1275 though

Latest word is they are building Webers again, still in Spain.

BTW, you can still get NEW Dellortos- I got a quote from UK.
Would be A$800 by the time it got here though!

Are there any resellers here for dellortos or webers?

Best bet would be to go to a wrecker of fine Italian cars and source them from there. I know there is a set of twin DHLA 40G's(matched) sitting in the Renault/Citroen wrecker in Toowoomba and he wants $270 as is(with manifold and Alfa airbox). They will more than likely need a rebuild kit put through them though and rejetted to suit a mini.

www.dellorto.co.uk are a good source of spare parts and the likes for this venerable carby(thanks Kev!!)

Hooroo

Repair kits for Dellorto (Fuel Miser DE-250) are available from any spares place.
Most jets etc are available from Curburettor Service Co, 240 Burwood Rd Burwood (Sydney). But they don't keep chokes- so I got mine in from www.dellorto.co.uk
