The ad mentions the Harmon Kardon sound system but the speakers look like the bog stock ones (besides, I am fairly sure that HK wasn't available in 2002). It was the very very early cars that had a shelf instead of a glovebox, so in theory this could be one to avoid.

Actually, looking again, those are 17 inch wheels, not 15's or 16's (as said in the ad). :!:

Technically it is a 2004 model and has 2004 features and it was complianced here in Australia in 2004 but it was built in November 2003.

Ordered it from the factory - so every option on the car is there because I wanted it there. I love that. They reckon that because so many of these cars are personally specced with such a big range of options that it is only 2 in every 100,000 or so that are identical. :)

Have driven a couple of CVT loan coopers when mine has been in for service. Very chuckable. :)

Your so lucky being able to order just what you want Poki, this hunting for 2nd handers is irritating!!!!! There is always one thing they don't have quite right, color, condition, km's, features!

Well, it was one of those things - a personal reward. The BINI came when I finished paying off my business. Thats 8 years wages sitting in my garage. :)

Ryan - its electric blue with white roof (smurf colours)

I only lost about $5000 in 3 years with 40,000km on the clock, requiring a new windshield and tyres, And that was a dealer trade in :)
So I think you will struggle to get one @ $20,000. Even a old mini is getting up there in Price

So many mini2 people here :D

PLEASE HELP me decide :)

Went on the final mini shop today...and this is what its down to:

2002 Red/white roof R50 Cooper (no glovebox!!) full sunroof, cruise, 16 inch alloys, not in "perfect" condition" inside few careless marks in plastic areas, seats need dry cleaning etc etc....but would clean up ok I think. 40,000 on the clock.

OR

2002 Liquid Yellow/ white roof R50 Cooper with glovebox!! basic options, pristine condition inside, 18,000kms on the clock, has extended bmw warranty and service till end 2005

Both cars are the same price

I'm concerned about the early 2002 things I've been hearing (the no glovebox edition), In my situation what would you do?

hmmm cant tell you what to do, it's your money after all.

A note on some of the options: the sunroof is awesome. I love mine but it does tend to rattle and squeak a bit (must remember to get that looked at). That would have added 2 grand to the price of the car new. It also adds a bit of weight to the car which apparently affects the performance - which would only be an issue if you wanted to race it.

Does the one with cruise have a multi function steering wheel? By that I mean the little buttons on the back of the wheel to operate the stereo. I thought that was a bit of a wank at first but it was one of the things I missed when my car was off the road a few months back.

What is the build month of each? There is a plate under the bonnet stating when it was built. Don't know if this will work but you could try getting hold of the VIN of each vehicle and going to BMW to find out the warranty history of each vehicle. If you go see a dealer and tell them that you wanna build a service relationship with them  they might help you out.

Looks like its coming down to options v kilometres. (Wasn't one of them a cvt? that would have added a few thou to the new price too)

interesting. The red is a very very very very early build. Don't think I have seen a car built that early.

I really like yellow. Next MINI I get will be liquid yellow/black. (Although I could remember reading somewhere that it is going to be discontinued - given that it is rare already that could be a good thing)

Good luck with the decision. :)

Congratulations and welcome to BINI ownership :D

Rules to follow as a BINI driver:

1. Wave and flash to any other mini/BINI you see out there.
2. Drive it like you stole it
3. Join ClubMINI and meet other like minded BINI owners.

:)
