HI, i am about to have an engine bored out but i need to know some stuff first. So if anyone can answer my questions that would be sweet as!

Firstly, the engine i wish to get bored is a 1275 and and is already bored to 60 thou over, what I need to know is what is the next size up is.

2. I need to know what pistons i need and where to get them.

3. I need to know whether or not I should put in the "RE13" cam or how i go about it.

4. Will i need new cam bearings.

Finnally, should i replace mains bolts and big end bolts?

So I anyone can shed any light on the matter, I would be greatly appreciative of their help...

73.0mm, 1360cc

73.0mm Hypatecs. From Russell Engineering or Mini Automotive in Qld

3. I need to know whether or not I should put in the "RE13" cam or how i go about it.
Yes it's the best fast road cam I've used out of many. Russell Engineering.

4. Will i need new cam bearings.
Maybe. Depends if old are worn or scored. I got Graham Russell to fit mine.

Yes probably, and yes definitely.. I'd use ARP rod bolts and nuts.

So I anyone can shed any light on the matter, I would be greatly appreciative of their help...

Just to add a couple of questions to Swiftys post, as I'm the silly mug who agreed to help him rebuild it...

The head to begin with will be a stocko - I assume we can get the right height pistons to get the compression to aorund 10:1 without having to deck the head?

Also are the standard valve springs up to the job with the re13 cam?

And I'm curious how many revs a standard bottem end can handle, day in, day out - 6,000, 6,500, 7,000???

Any other pearls of wisdom for this rebuild would be great to Doc....

Fatboy, i rang up and organised pistons at Russell Engineering, i have decided that i will frieght the block down to him to have it bored and that way he can work on the cam aswell!?

Anyway all I have to do now is put the block on a pallet and have stevo's send it to sydney. So the sooner we get the block there the better!!!

Cheers cya friday

P.S. Its "shifty" not "swifty"!!!

Hey hey! I can probably answer that :o

Graham recommends double valve springs with the RE13. Minispares part number C-AEA526. What about rockers? it would go really hard with 1.5 rockers or one of the Doc's Special Tuning ToyoMini rockers set 8) Also don'f forget new cam followers.

If it's a regular bottom end (non S, small journal) I wouldn't rev it past 6500 too often. You won't get much more power after that anyway and it will seriously reduce the life expectancy of your engine. I's be setting my redline at around 6500rpm
