I have Hella H4's RRP is $160 these day's....

They are easy to replace, just take your grill off, unscrew the old ones and you'll figure it out...wire plugs into the back..

I'm running a New-Era relay as well...with proper 4mm wiring..lights are brighter than those on my VT commodore and the high beam crap's all over it too 8)

The Rallye 4000's would be ace I reckon, though the light bar could be an issue. They will not require any more power than any other light with the same size globe, they are just physically bigger. There are a number of threads on here about wiring lights, you will have to figure out how much power drain you have and size the alternator from there.

I got a set of ZEIL H4 replacements in mine. cost me about 120 for the pair. hve not upgraded the wiring yet. but will get around to it soon. i agree with changing over to relays rather than using the switch to turn the load. then u can do some trick stuff. like make the lights turn off when u turn ignition off. i always used to forget to turn mine off  . looked at putting in some HID (High intensity discharge) clobes in but near $1000 for the kit. i think that one can wait a while

My apologies for being lazy...but has anyone got a wiring diagram to save me some time in hooking up a relay (New Era) to run halogens in a poor little Clubman with crap lights?
Would be much appreciated as I'm 100km's from the car so any work I do on it needs to be well-planned before I get there.

I don't think I need H4 to be honest... with the relay installed and pulsar 75amps running through my sealed beams, they are pretty darn good as is...

Although I'd be interested to see how much better H4's will be :D

I got given one pair, and found another pair in a box of goodies I bought for NZ$20. Fitted one pair to our 850, which rolled forward (as the handbrake wasn't on properly) and broke one on the bumper of the Commer van.

Are my old ones (sealed beam) worth anything? They're just sitting waiting for me to get sick of them and throw them out.

Not a good idea, you want your lights to be independent from ignition (say you have to take the keys out of the ignition while parked at the side of the road at night?) and I think its illegal too, so you might fail rego depending on how tough the testers are (though I'm not sure).

But anyway if you really want to, you dont need a relay to make the lights conditional on igniton. On your solenoid they are two outlets (feeding brown wires to the fuse box), one is always on the other is on on ignition only. Simply a case of shifting the lights' positive feed.

I have the immobiliser programmed to turn the lights on and off. if i need to i can turn the switch off then on and it over rides the auto off. cheers for looking out for possible "illegal" mods though. i live sort of in the country aswell. so with this steup i dont have to worry about remembering to turn light on/off all the time. they just turn on when the immobiliser is dis-armed

Supercheap stock them. About $35.
They also have CheapoChina ones for $25, but when it comes to car lights I prefer reliability!
