I am still new to the prospect of doing up the mini.
Bought a big collection of parts of ebay for $2,400. Including:
1275 block, in need of a rebore
Cooper S gearbox, Mint
8.4 discs
front and rear subframes (not the hydrolastic ones)
10"contestas
and 66 deluxe shell an need of serious love and care
came with other parts like radiators and windows... I think I did ok. there was most of the car there, and the only bits i need are little or cosmetic. Did i get it for a good price?
The thing that is causing me huge grief at the moment is what kind of carbs to put on her. At the moment i have a single 1 1/2 inch SU and a collection of standard manifolds. I think i should do the upgrade, but i am not sure what to go for.
Keeping in mind that this block is said to have been bored and stroked to about a 1400cc (haven't got it measured yet, will let you know) what kind of carbs should i be running. I am not goingto be racing her, so i dont need massive power, just something nice. She will be recieving a set of LCB's and a new exhaust system. thats the other thing, what specs should i be looking for in the exhaust department?
I know this is long, so i will end it here...
I would go with a Weber 45DCOE as fuzzy said.
The brakes will be 7" or 7.5" if they fit in the Contessa mags. What condition are the brakes in? Can you post pics of what you got?
Sorry to be the barer of bad news, but at $2,400 for that collection, I would say you got done. I would have paid maybe $1,200-$1,500 max for that lot.
A 1275 bored and stroked to 1400 and in need of a rebore would be on the verge of a throw away. That being said, it depends on how much they stroked it. You *might* be lucky and be able to take is back to a standard crank and have enough meat left for a rebore. I am guessing it is a stroked 1360 or 1380. If it is 1380, you are stuffed. Then again, it may not need a rebore at all.
