hey guys here is my new 12g202 head, which i got for $90. since i got it i have sprayed it yellow and fitted the valves , springs and fitted it to my trusty 998 . it has also had extensive inlet port work aswell as full hot tanking before it was painted.



this is my short shifter, it is half BA XR8 gear lever and half mini rod change lever, it makes shifting feel alot more like a modern car and it looks great aswell

How did you join the 2 shifters?

My old Clubman had a cut & shut shifter and that bloody thing broke a couple of times. Try changing gears with 1" of stick with sharp end! Luckily I had a mate in the car who moved it into gear with his foot as I clutched in

preheat the two sections with an oxy to anneal( spelling ) the steel. then weld prep the joints and crank up the mig HIGH then weld away. i had it in the vice and i was hanging from it and it didnt snap, so all fingers crossed

Or if you are using a stick welder, use a high tensile welding rod and not a mild steel rod... Also V the ends of both sections for a better weld penetration.

Never have the amps to high on a stick welder or you will end up fusing (melt) the metal together and not actually welding it.. After welding, leave it to cool down on it's own and do not put it in water while hot.

Hey, where did you get that rubber seal/boot thing that is on the selector (lower) shaft? Is that stock?

My car doesn't have one, but I found a seal from a Chevy pickup that fit right into the end. It would be nice to have a rubber boot also though.

As far as running a shorter shifter, just cut it and run an aftermarket shift knob. The usually attach with allen screws and are universal.

My shifter. I still have to cut the shaft down though, gonna wait until it's in the car though

Hey Ben the head looks real nice, I'd lose those sintered rockers though, they are all crap. Go find some nice pressed steel ones, which have bushes in 'em..

You can cut another corner and avoid getting the stick rethreaded by buying a gear knob that is fixed by a horizontal screw that grabs onto the gearstick - super cheap should stock them. I did this years ago on my MK2 Escort with a steel ball gear knob (not comfortable when car left in the sun on hot days ) and it worked a treat.

In neutral, top of floor to top of shift knob is 250mm now.
So make shifter ~25mm or whatever, shorter.
