My seams were really rusty, so I chose to shave 'em. Plus, if I ever get in an accident, I don't think the Mini will hold up well anyway.
Here's some pics of mine-

its black and I currently have the welder out. I have pulled off the seam covers, and don't know. Will it destroy a classic? or are these classic a dime a dozen

DON'T DO IT!

How bad are the seams? I have done 2000km in the last couple of weeks looking for an 850 shell with good seams and can't find one. I am biting the bullet and are going to get mine fixed.

Mine is a 1963 850 and everything is in top nick except the seams. :( Pulled the covers off and there were no seams.

all seams upper sections are ok, but lower are crappy

btw what makes an 850?
like I wrote, its got a cooper motor, banged up inner guards, custom full length inner dash, full velour interior contessa's (10')
So far I have removed the drums (front) to be replaced with camira brakes, and looking at buying a gti motor for it.
sorry dude i thiinks its getting the chop

I love the deseamed look, especially on a Clubby.
Heard that it's a lot of work but, so haven't tried it myself.

There was a deseamed Clubby with a hot motor for sale in Perth a couple of months ago,
but I didn't have the money

850s are getting rarer. Worth keeping body `original', IMO.

Having owned a deseamed Mini Deluxe once, I wouldn't do it.
Hard to do properly, and if you ever bend the car it's lots more work to fix.
Of course, if it was a Clubbie it wouldn't matter- they are a dime a dozen! :P

haha thats not what current prices for clubbies indicate!!!!

Dude, like I said, I have travelled miles to find a better body and came up empty handed. It looks like you either get great seams and no floor, boot, crappy guards and doors or great everything but crap seams.

Unless you know someone with a '63 850 shell that is damn near perfect and wants to sell it for $2K (factory condition) or less, Wolf will be picking her up on Saturday.

No probs dude. :) The shell has been a sore point for me. I was close to giving up on it and doing a clubman+roundy front cut job.

I'll be round a MadMatt's this arvo taking photo's of the progress of the BMW twinky. He has it in the Monaco to get the intercooler, etc, done.

All he needs now is an ECU and he can fire it up.

That's what I think I will end up doing. I tend to be a little "creative" once I get stuck into things and don't think I could bring myself to chopping a tidy roundy

my only question is if you would need an engineers report for a clubby??? or even an 850!!!

I mean, what would an enineer say? I want to do it to mine, but if i couldnt get an engineers afterwards all the money for insurance is lost as I wouldnt be covered
