Yea well, my cast hepolites seem to be holding up to the job...

18,000 Force-fed miles....

Weak point has been head gaskets.... all that changes today.. i can now use the BK450 "turbo" gaskets....

I'm not a big believer that "if it has a turbo, it has to have forged pistons"
for me, its what works.. and the cast hepolite 998 piston seems to be doing the job so far....

i also so believe forged arnt always needed if a car is setup properly. forged only really withstand detonation from what ive heard. i'm not one for buying something on brand name so i can place a sticker on the side.

Downside of forged ones is you need to run more clearance, as they expand more due to the alloy used.
And, they do wear out faster.

I had forged Mahle flat tops in the last 1310 motor. One day at Wakefield Pk one got just a little hot, and seized...
But, I still drove it 120 miles to home... with `single cylinder piston slap'...
I'm now running Hypatec cast ones. Good copy of a Hepolite 21253 type cast piston, but stronger.

<edit> for KC's thoughts on the cast vs forged debate, see here-
