its black and I currently have the welder out. I have pulled off the seam covers, and don't know. Will it destroy a classic? or are these classic a dime a dozen

850s are getting rarer. Worth keeping body `original', IMO.

Having owned a deseamed Mini Deluxe once, I wouldn't do it.
Hard to do properly, and if you ever bend the car it's lots more work to fix.
Of course, if it was a Clubbie it wouldn't matter- they are a dime a dozen! :P

Take a look at my photobucket album (link in my signature). It's deseamed, though it is a Clubby. I reckon deseaming Minis looks frikkin awesome, and makes it look a lot more modern.

If you are gonna fully customise it, deseam it. :D If you want to keep it more original, then put that welder away as re-seaming a Mini is beyutch.

btw it has a cooper motor in it, and the engine bay sides are not neat and straight. It has been in a front ender, and I replaced the front, but not the insides of the engine bay
still worth keeping? It looks like I need to replace the front guard now as it has a few holes in it from the rust. The car has been resprayed before, and they liked the use of bog to fill holes.

I think a de-seamed mini looks awesome.. But each to their own, and yeah if you ever need to replace a pannel it will make for alot more work...

my idea to deseam:

Using a sand blaster remove all that sticky stuff, paint and crap from behind the welded area.
Using a stitch welding tehnique, remove an inch at a time (remove an inch, leave an inch, remove an inch... etc) to deseam.
or something like that!

I was looking at an old old ('93 ish) miniworld mag, they had an article about deseaming, they said do a few incles at a time, cut the seam down to about 1/8 inch, weld it, then bash it back into the pillar, do the whole lot then fill over it - EWWWWWWWWWW!!!!! tell me that wouldn't crack out in a week!

I wanna deseam the van, but just the pillars, not the roof...

sounds like the mini is a bit of a bitsa anyway, so do it!

I'm not a fan of deseaming..It can look OK in moderation..say a smooth bum where the rear valance is..

It's very hard to get it to look right and strong...
