It will only cause damage if your cooling system is shonky and/or you are using a really poor quality/brand of oil. If you plan on doing 100kmh for long periods quite frequently, then make doubly sure that oil/coolant levels are maintained and if it looks like it's getting to hot, then stop.

If you want to, then you could go for a different ratio final drive. I think I have a 3.44 in at the moment, but I want to get a 3.1 or something, just to make higher speed cruising a little more "comfortable".

Nah, 4000 won't hurt it. I run a 3.65 diff too- I put it in instead of the 3.44, to get even more grunt in 4th gear. :P
Actually a 1275 has a harmonic imbalance somewhere around 4500 I think, best to either go either faster or slower than that on the freeway.
So I've been told... but it never hurt my last S crank...

You should have no probs, I don't know what you call long, but i do a 30-40min trip to work on the freeway and i vary speed between 100-130..about 4000-5250ish the whole way and it's never complained..

Overheating shouldn't be a problem on the freeway, I don't know about the 3.65 diff...i like the idea..but at hwy speeds it's probably too loud for my liking..
