I was never convinced that the spar along the back was entirely necessary. There's never really any chance that the two towers are going to move toward each other once they are bolted into the bulkhead. Reason why we had to put mine on was to hang the rear engine mount off.

What took me a while to get over was that it's not a cross-flow head. Must be an old school motor.

Hi Brad,

Strut between two towers was not for preventing the two towers from coming together or even to prevent seperating (which is does on both accounts) but to add torsional stiffness.

Matt - I take it you mean like this as well (gonna get bagged big time now!!)

Seriously though - you need some 'depth' to your spars and bracing to make sure it never moves.

The more bracing the better!

Nice welds though!

Thanks for the intrest guys ,i didnt know there were so many experts out there on this conversion? ive been reserching this conversion for well over 18 months and found no one who had done it or knew of it , and to find them all now.....well.
Sorry just hard to take a knock after alot of work ,im sure some of you would understand. As far as bracing is concerned im sure the engineer helping me has got some clue after 20+years in his trade ,ill guess ill find out when it is completed from the certifier if its up to scratch.
Remember guys ,its only a mini with a 1231CC alloy turbo engine ,not a drag car.
There are more mounts also, ill try and put all info on a website latter with pic of body shell from start to finish for anyone who is interested ,ill keep u posted.

Hope i havnt affended anyone. ( i guess you will let me know anyway :) )

MiniVan,

Flux-cored crap!!

My advice: Dont use it if you dont have to!! Go and get some argoshield or CO2 instead.
