Absolutely! It's so fast now, the wind drag will blow the bonnet open!

Naah I have always been thinking about it. Best time to do that is now since it's officially a "Dr Mini / Graham Russel "works car"

just remember...that leather bonnet straps should not be the only means of locking the bonnet on a road car.....leather weathers, wears out with use and can snap sooner or later....

No worries, the normal bonnet latch will stay. This is a "justin" measure for those bumpy sydney roads

I am thinking of some sort of in car bonnet release too... can't be too careful these days.

Lillee attracts too much attention

Can I ask: Why option 2??? is there a reason or is it pure preference?

My car had option 2 to give the tie down thing something to hold onto.
No mods to the grille needed.

Mine are just between the stripes- Position #3- but upside down so they are easy to do up. 8)
I pop rivetted the ends to the inside of the moustache with 3/16" marine grade rivets. Can't see them easily...

Mick, you can tell how they are weathering by inspecting as you do them up. Soak 'em in neatsfoot oil if you want them to last `forever'...

Sure you can...and you can replace them when they are starting to look a little ropey...but not everyone knows or even cares

Why don't you go "OL' SKOOL" and do the italian job sort of straps?
That would look classy on Lilly

What is an italian job latch?

If these wear out, I will buy 2 cheap real leather belts and use those instead. Then they'll last forever! (almost)

Is it really? It's such a nice bonnet, I do a fair bit of freeway driving and over bumpy roads, I just don't want it to flip open like that nice orange mini in Canada (the one with the chequered flag airbrushed artwork on the whole car) the bonnet flipped open and totally flew off at 120km/h or whatever

Plus Kev keeps saying he's seen what happens when it does happen and hence why he has some on Haha

PLUS my bonnet latch is dodgey (even after i spent 1 hour pulling it apart and adjusting it to buggery) it's still dodgey...
