Hi Lucas,

I paid $1800 for the forntcut.
Got a bit of a deal though - came with viscous LSD.
Bought it from Rolin Automotive on the Gold Coast

Regards,
Andrew

This is off another site but should answer your question...

Quote:
Viscous LSD works on the same principle as an automatic transmission, which is that the fluid inside of it heats up as it shears, changing its viscosity. When a wheel slips, power is transferred to the other wheel, so power is applied smoothly. There is very little loss under power in such a system, but there is some loss of power during slip. Viscous limited slip units effectively never wear out unless a seal fails -- the fluid could theoretically be burned up, but the engine would probably die first. Some Japanese sports cars (especially from Nissan) have been known to feature a viscous LSD as an option.

Hey Minster

I payed $1500 for my halfcut, it's an EP82. Got it from a place in Greenacre NSW called Aivi Wreckers... I had to hassle the guy a bit to get the price down though.

Hey Disabled,

Here is a picture of the VLSD on my Starlet. Its the bit hanging of the end of the gearbox.
They are supposed to be heaps more efficient than mechanical LSD's however they do
work slightly differentally in that they are progressive in nature.

Matt - thanks for the explanation previously.

Andrew,

That LSD being there does it make the driveshafts more even in length? As upposed to the ones that don't have LSD.

Hi John,

Yeah, it makes the almost the same length but not quite.
I think from memory there is still about 150mm(?) in it. I'll do a quick measure tomorrow and let you know the exact amount.
But of course its better to have than to have not.

Cheers,
Andrew

Yeah ya bugger, Andrew. I wish my Starlet had one. Still they wanted another $500 for a halfcut with VLSD which would have put the price close to $3000 including freight!! I see you got the hang of pictures.

By the way some bad news Andrew, I have maxed out my webspace and still have plenty more to put up so I am going to have to close down some parts of the website to create more space. I leave this image up so the link works but for the moment the rest will have to go. Sorry mate. Once I have more space I'll put them back up OK.

Cheers

Matt

Yeah Andrew, in that post I linked you to for putting pics in your posts, I think there was reference to a few free photo hosting places. I think one is called photobucket something something. Do a google and I think you should find something there are a few about. Then once they're up there you can link to them...

Matt,

Youre a dead set certified genius.

Minster here are some pics of the finished subframe. It basically just needs a coat of paint and the big rubber stamp.

Let me know what you think.

Andrew, very well done mate. I like some of your design solutions. I guess that's the whole thing you look at what someone else did and then you go hey why don't you put the spar there. Brilliant effort mate now as you say you just have to see what the RTA response is to your 60page tome!

Wait for everyone to ask where your front spar is...

Cheers

Yes Andrew, well done!

I think you have set the benchmark in conversion subframe design
- can see a lot more hybrid minis using your design in the future 8)

Mike
