I have found that most modern accessory voltmeters are good for a general indication of voltage only. Mine also ,displays 14.2v but my calibrated fluke reads 13.8. Not that 0.4v makes any real difference but it is worth keeping in mind. Anything in the 13.5v to 14.5v range is good.

Yeah I agree it's just to confirm that it's charging.
And the usb is for my tomtom when I use it.

I don't use usb in the mjni really but there is one on the Bluetooth/music fm device that plugs into the cigarette lighter socket..another socket I use for.my ancient gps.

Don't forget the warning light also lets you know if the fan belt comes off or breaks
Lets you save the engine from overheating

I agree, however the 3 or 4 times I have suffered broken belts in various cars it has always been the sudden, rapid rise in engine temp that alerted me rather than the alt/ign light.

Update on mine-
I pulled the Dellorto carb off for access.
The bulb holder had come out of the speedo, all good now.
I can't remember when the lamp last worked haha.
Edited typo gibberish.
