Yes it flicks oil onto the timing chain

It's not a Cooper S one, those are almost flat. And marked F for front.

So are you saying there are 2 types of oil slinger, one for Cooper S and one for the others?

The marks on the plate can come from a duplex chain

One of the part numbers is 12A1148 and they are often marked with an “F” for front

Readers, there are two versions of this thrower. 12A1148 and AYA139, with different offsets. 12A1148 is the shallower one.

The shallow one pictured above is for a duplex chain. As used on Cooper S and early non S 1275.
Or fit to any A series fitted with a duplex chain.
The deeper one was used on everything else. Single row chain.

These have become a little hard to find locally at the moment. A roll-on effect of the loss of small part maker industry to COVID. I thought I found one in QLD, but unfortunately it's for a larger crankshaft tail diameter (although its labeled A-series? Maybe its B series?).

i currently have one coming from NZ. Here's hoping it's the right (shallow dish) one.

Timing chain runs in an oil bath.
The plate slings oil away from the timing cover oil seal. I don't think they do much for the seal, some race engine builders don't use them with duplex chains as aftermarket ones are too soft and flatten when pulley is torqued up.
I've built motors without them. Including my son's 1300. Doesn't leak.
My 1360 has a Triger belt drive kit, there's no way to fit one.
Doesn't leak either.

Pretty sure I was supplied with the wrong one it being a larger internal diameter.

Yeah. I spoke to him about it. He figured it was A-series (inline) but I think it might be perhaps something else.
