Is this the same for Mk1 Minis? Mine is horizontal at the moment, but self cancelling doesn't work properly - the (general) mechanic said the steering rack was probably 1 tooth out when assembled. I'm using this steering rack

Should I be making a small modification to the shroud so that the lever sits over the cancelling bolt?
Mk1 is pretty much the same setup.
The self-cancelling stud is attached to the inner steering column and normally it is slightly above the horizontal, giving the 20 degree angle, when the steering wheel is in the straight ahead position and the pinch bolt at the bottom of the column is horizontal to the floor.
If the steering wheel and lower pinch bolt are not in these positions, the rack may be off centre.

You should be able to move the outer column and shroud by loosening the clamp at the parcel shelf (not the one on the floor). Adjust the outer column so the self-cancelling fingers line up with the cancelling stud on the inner column.
