That makes a difference if mine doesn't seem to fit the new rubber.

Yes. A bit of a difference but easier and cheaper to find a different profile seal than buy another windscreen!

My mk2 has an Australian autoglass branded, laminated and top tinted screen : 6.02mm. I purchased it 1979/80.

I also have the old zone toughened windscreen, that shatters into a million unfindable pieces, that is 5.15mm thick. Maybe fit that!!

If you have all the gear why not fit it yourself, they are fiddly and a bit time consuming but not at all hard.

Can you see what is stopping the screen from fitting the seal?
Is it the difference in glass thickness compared to the recess in the rubber?

InkedSeal front windscreen Mk2_LI.jpg

The only time I couldn't fit a screen, it was due to too much rubber between the channel for the glass and the channel for the body lip, as marked in the photo. This is the seal I removed from my Mk2. The marked section measures 7.0mm - if this is much more, the glass won't fit.
The channel for the glass is 6.0mm (the glass was 6.0mm)

My new windscreen rubber measurement is 7mm too Bill B. My TRIPLEX original windscreen is 7.25mm thick. The rubber groove for the screen is 3.66mm, so there is no way the screen will fit the rubber.

QUOTE FROM https://www.theminiforum.co.uk

Just an observation on this topic. I bought a new screen seal (latest type) for my wifes 83 mini to refit the old screen after a respray.
The seal wouldn't go around the screen off the car so I fitted the seal to the car and tried that way. It fitted but then the screen wouldn't squeeze into the slit even with loads of lubricant.
It turned out that the more modern screens which are suitable for the new type seal are thicker than the older ones and that's why my screen wouldn't fit. Discarded the new seal and re-used the old one. Perfect fit.
Maybe this information is a possible explanation of your screen cracking.

I found this very interesting part in my PUB 1056M on page RG-2.
HYA7161 Weather Seal - Windscreen Toughened - HYA7162 (which everyone is selling) and Windscreen Laminated - HYA7162 (which no one sells).

Any comments from the well versed Mini enthusiasts out there!!

In the 60s the Non S front screens were Zone Toughened Safety Glass.

The S was Laminated. I dont know the difference in thickness sorry.

My PUB1056M is stored away so I can't check and don't quite follow what you are saying.

According to the parts book I reckon HYA7161 was meant to accommodate the thinner zone toughened windscreen and HYA7162 the thicker laminated windscreen. Eventually the laminated one becomes standard fitment so no longer a need for the thinner HYA7161, although some current suppliers still use that part number (see below).

When supplies of genuine BMC/Leyland seals dried up aftermarket seals would be given one of the original part numbers, even though they may not be the same dimensions or made from the same material as the originals.

I see the last supplier says the seal is made in Australia. It would be interesting to know the actual manufacturer of the seals from other suppliers in order to know if they are the same dimensions and material.

Once the source of a "good" seal is known it would be worthwhile posting here to assist others.

Also why is there two rear screen seal options from the last supplier (Australian) on Winabbey's list?

Same number but one state's: Aus mini k body.

Excellant idea Winabbey to have a go to detailed page for glass and rubber seals for the mini model's.

Perhaps one is for the larger rear screen found on later UK Mini models?

This extract from the later PUB1012 parts book may be of interest.
