With which tyre do you mean? I know where the minilites leak from and have fixed the GT rim!

OK, no worries. Just meandering through some posts and didn't see whether or not you had used this method to pinpoint leaks. The cows and horses won't be disturbed then. :)

Not by me driving a mini through it any way.
Plus this may be a better option, in my backyard

We had a similar problem many year's ago (30+) when we purchased a set of Mamba Racing Wheel's. A couple of rim's, as we found out were pourus (very minute holes) from casting and it was due to the amount of magnesium which was used in their production.

So, we ended up coating the inside of the wheel's with some silicone (from memory) and they've been Ok ever since.

As for running a tube, I wouldn't recomend it (working in the tyre industry), as most (if not all..) of the tyre's are designed to run tubless and the design of the wheel's these days doesn't allow the correct fitment of a tube.

Also, when you have nail or screw enter the tread, the natural tendency of the of tyre when it's fitted with a tube is for the tyre to pressure lose its pressure straight away, which can prove extremely dangerous when fitted to the front of the vehicle (lose of steering control). This is where a tubeless tyre can maintain it's pressure most of the time in the event of a puncture, where it may be fixed depending upon its condition.

Older alloy rims are more susceptible to corrosion. They need to be cleaned right up, fitted tubeless and glued. There is a glue that is applied to the bead of the rim. If that doesn't work, add a tube with talcum and you should be right. I was a tyre fitter for 8yrs.

I notice that you mentioned that you have used bead sealers before. The stuff we used was black and had a brush incorporated into the lid if that helps.

Thanks for the info, I have been searching the web etc and corrosion seems to be the most likely.
I have fixed the gt rims and they are all good and on the car so the alloys are now off the vehicle and I can take more time to figure out and fix as necessary.
