Take it to your local glass place and they can cut you a new piece and can stick it in with some sikaflex or the like.

This is what I did with a rearview mirror for my Moke.

Try your local glass/mirror places first. None of mine weren't interested so I found 'maxxeshop' auto parts division in the Gold Coast . They cut 3 glasses @ $45 each in 2mm ADR compliant flat glass in 2018. They do other types of glass too.
Had the mirror base and stalk rechromed in Queenbeyan - not cheap but a very good job.

Some glass places will look at you like you have two heads.
Some glass places have templates of mirrors of popular models hanging on a nail on the wall.

Lol I'd expect that some places are just lazy...but I'd be thinking that some places would also like the extra work given the circumstances we're in atm...

Yes. It is burnt into my mind (and card). I sent 7 items and cost about $700! The parts were bases and stalks for the mirrors and some door handles and escutcheons. But the old chroming has to be removed, the metal bits linished smooth, rechromed and polished again. All the sharp edges were preserved and the results were excellent. If you've ever buffed/polished parts, you'll be pleased to have someone else do it. Most door handle parts are made from a zinc based metal that is very porous like honeycomb and has to be linished to remove the holes. Ya takes ya pick and ya pays the price...
If you can, do it now.... it won't get any cheaper.

Yeah that's my thought better off getting them done now rather then later as stuff just seems to be getting more and more expensive... thanks for the info
