Considering the fact that it essentially pumped more air into the engine, wouldn't the removal result in some sort of power/fuel loss? Perhaps the carbie can keep up?

It fed air into the exhaust ports to lower the emissions out the tailpipe.

It pumps air into the exhaust port to burn off the unburned hydrocarbons. (some people mistakenly claim it's to dilute the exhaust)
It doesn't really effect what happens inside the cylinders except for raising the exhaust valve temps.

I just want to express my disappointment in this group on what is MY thread asking genuine questions, my willingness to learn and enthusiasm about this community. You can clearly see my excitement and gratitude as people were willing to help. Regardless if the information is true/half true or false, its all a learning experience. I agree, if I was asking about a safety matter, or something that if done incorrectly will result in an expensive mistake or hurt me or someone else, then I'm all for healthy discussions. To hijack discussions for personal bickering is just poor form in my books. It's certainly knocked some of the shine off what is an exciting project for me. I'll be looking for a different community to engage with.
Thank you to those who helped me in my short time I was here - your input was very much appreciated.
Cheers

Sorry br3nt,

We used to see this kind of behaviour more in the 2000s with the growth of the internet and a lot of new users grinding axes for internal issues. We're all a little bit better these days. Richard's banished back to 2005 for now, along with his posts. I hope you'll note the rest of the users don't carry on like geese. There's good people here, and plenty of good advice.
