I have one problem though that I keep forgetting to mention Doc, the dissy cap for the pulsar one, are there any caps that stick out less? this cap that I have is huge for a mini (at least mine is!) and it makes the grille not sit properly (hence needing spacers fitted...) even when running the right angled HT cables. It's the centre ignition coil lead that sticks out the most and contacts the grille...

Any ideas?

No different caps I know of.
Use a right angle coil lead. Barney's one misses OK without grille spacers..

OK I had a look at Chong's dizzy, and there's a friggin' metal plate screwed onto the back of the grille that's hitting it!
Piss it off- not needed- Pulsar caps have an O-ring in their base to keep water out.

Kevin,

I have acquired a distributor, leads & coil from local wreckers. Cost twice Syd prices!
Interesting that the first wrecker had 3x 1983+ Nissans but all had the points version of the distributor. Next place had electronic version. The coil looks like the old standard coils (except says use with resistor). I expected a different shape.

Question: do I connect up the dissy and coil without any resistor?

thanks,

Going rate at Pick 'n Payless was $40, with the coil and wires too.
But there were none there the other day when I trawled thru it.

These Pulsar dizzys use a 1.5 ohm coil (eg Bosch GT40R) the same as is normally used with a resistor in points ignition systems.

NO, these so-called `resistor' coils do NOT use a resistor when running the Pulsar electronic dizzy. They get the full 12VDC.

ps. there's often a little radio suppressor condensor on one of the coil wires- you can safely fling it. 8)

Kevin,

thanks. Will measure the coil, but it looks orig equipment.
I didn't get the radio suppressor, so that solves that.

Mick, look at bottom of Bosch coil. 12V = no resistor = GT40.
The GT40-R ones all say `use with resistor'.
