Notice that the ignition light on my Mk2 S occasionally flickers at higher road (not engine) speeds, typically >50MPH. None of the alternator leads seem loose, so I am guessing that something loosens intermittently with the volume of air running through the grille. Any other likely explanation? If not, which is likely to be the offending lead? Maybe a dirty connection?

The light flickering can be a warning that the brushes are wearing out.
One wears faster than the other but you replace as a set.
These are mounted external on an S, easy to replace in situ.
Otherwise, probably a bad connection somewhere.

If it turns out to be brushes, the only supplier I can see is Minisport (SA) with their ABR5406/ULB110- Lucas Alternator brush set. Is this what I would need for a Mk2 Alternator?

For parts for 15AC alternators:

Try Anthony Buttigieg trading as "Auto Electrics on Wheels" and listed in Ausmini businesses. He supplies a lot of mini related electrics as parts or complete units and is very willing to discuss problems.
