I hope everyone is keeping well in these tough times.
I've been away for sometime, but i'm getting back into the mini while i'm stuck at home.
I've got the engine out and i wasn't going to take the front subframe out, but my son pointed out that the dust boot on the bottom of the displacer unit is shot.
Now, can i replace the dust boot without taking the unit out of the subframe?
If i have to take the unit out do i need to depressurise the system or just release the pressure?

you don't need to take the unit out, but you do need to let the fluid out so that you can remove the knuckle to get the boot in

Do I need to do this with the depressurising unit or just release it by the valves at the rear?

you can release it by the valves - either with the car still on it's wheels or put a jack under the lower suspension arm and take the weight of the car on it, then let the valve go - the bag will compress fully and push all of the fluid out

I've moved from the East with Defence and am living up in Rockingham. I've donw quite a lot of years of work on Hydro, and have all my mini tools as well (except the pump). Let me know if you would like a hand or some advice. I'm pretty under-utilised at the moment!

Please be very careful depressing the Schrader valve pin as the fluid is under around 200psi and serious damage has been done to people. It is a lot more than tyre pressure! I have done it, but kept my face above the rear beaver panel.

I was in Canberra and moved here in 2010. I remember you from that time. I spotted a grey roundnose with a union Jack on the roof the other day on safety bay rd. Haven't seen it before. Is that yours?
