Apologies for filling the forum with questions every day as my build finally comes together.

I have a question regarding licence plate mounts on the front apron.

My late '66 Deluxe has an aftermarket apron fitted that has the widely spaced 25mm-ish wide mounts as per the first pic below.

The car also came with the pictured butchered white apron which may have been original to the car, with the closer mounts that are 50mm-ish wide.

I've searched and searched for similar car pics on the forum and found build threads for other '67 Deluxe cars and it's been inconclusive. They have both types fitted!

Which would you expect to find a on an Ozzy '67 Deluxe? I'm guessing the upper pic is UK and the lower pic is Australia?
I'm not concerned about the other differences in the aprons, but I will swap these mounts if the lower pic is correct for my car.

Thanks in advance :)

Thanks Simon, yours was one of the cars I looked at when trying to figure this out :)

I've just pulled my bootlid from storage and it's badged 'MORRIS MINI 1100', so I guess it's from a Mini K. It's in great shape.
No doubt if I get a DELUXE badge it will be wider than the 1100 badge and I'll have to redrill ALL the holes to move MORRIS MINI to the left to keep it centred :( Arrgghh....
Maybe I'll delete all badges....

Anyway, thanks for you input. At least I won't be swapping the number plate mounts :)

Both were fitted to Aussie cars, the wide type had an angled bracket to suit the Aussie size plates. They were fitted to what cars with and without the brake cutouts on the valence from memory. There is probably a change point listed somewhere

The plate bracket is wider at the bottom than the top

Thanks Timmy.
When I did a heap of searches, a lot of people refer to the 'wide' number plate mounts, but it's never clear if they mean wide spacing (with the narrow straps), or wide straps (with the narrow spacing).

I wonder if my butchered white apron above was not even the original and had already bee replaced. I suspect some LHF accident damage on this car, so who knows.....

Ben, you will find a large number of "build" threads where you can follow what has been done to a car and how problems where sorted out etc...the MODs may be able to combine all yours into one (if you ask nicely). Otherwise, the search function is your friend :-) Mick

I would just leave it as it is...and confuse the heck out of all the experts :!:  (even better if you use a 1098cc). There are more important road safety items to spend your time on...

[Unless, you are trying to bring the car back to original...]

Thanks for the replies. Are both original BMC colours ?? I can’t see them listed as original Mk 1 or 2 S colours.

I'm not sure where I read it, but the change from widely spaced number plate brackets to the later narrow spaced occurred some time in 1967, about when the front seat pleats were made full length. - My own sept 1966 car has the widely spaced brackets same as on your car, but the replacement rover panel that I have tucked away is the same as your second photo.

Excellent info, thank you!
My car is a 66, so I'll stick with the widely spaced mounts.
