Doug, is there any formal documentation saying our Cooper S's were body colour on the A pillar?

Apologies Mat for not replying earlier.

There's nothing in writing saying the pillars were body colour, but the whole metal shell inside and out was painted body colour and the places vinyl was fitted is listed in the trim guide, which says "parcel tray and dash rail upper and lower". No mention of A pillar.

See trim guides for Mark 1 and MK II S here - viewtopic.php?f=25&t=96010

Yes.

BMC Australia made its own trim and the A pillar is not included.

Doug, is there any formal documentation saying our Cooper S's were body colour on the A pillar?

Cheers Mat

I am wondering the same thing.

Ian - I've been talking to John Smidt this morning about this and he advised that the vinyl you bought is for the Mark 1 Cooper S and early MK II's. The later MK II's had the grainier style as per your mate's car and other photos posted by others today. He is updating the description on the shop website to highlight this fact.

You can return the vinyl to MKO for a full refund.

Thanks Doug, mine (6/70) has the original dash vinyl too and matches the previous images for the grain type. I was only asked the other day and I too thought the A pillar was painted but wanted some backup. Cheers for your reply

For those needing the later MK II S dash vinyl I should have a sample in the next few days to compare to mine. If the same or very close to original, MKO will have it cut to pattern and available on their website.

This is what it looks like.

Do we have a good example of the original Mk 1 dash vinyl? Or is the stuff shown here pretty close?
When I got my Mk 1 painted a while back (around 20 years or more) I had them remove the vinyl so we could get a good paint colour match with the instructions to keep it so it could be put back on and they threw it out! - excuse was that it was looking a bit old and they thought it would be better to use nice new vinyl to match the nice new paint!
The replacement stuff i got for the Mk1 is pretty close to the grain in my 69 Mk2 (around car 330) and looks close to the other Mk2 examples shown here as well?

I posted this a while back, to me the Mk1 dash vinyl pattern is identical to the Mk1 seat vinyl
