There is also an issue with the fuel pump plastic outlet fitting being 5/16" and the fuel pipe being 1/4".
What size rubber hose do you need to connect between them?
I bought new hoses etc from Midel many years ago but never tried to fit the supplied hose between the pump and fuel line.
I can't remember if it was as special reducing hose or not.
Edit: After re-reading BillB's post I'm now not sure which hose was the problem as both plastic inlet & outlet fittings at the pump are the same size. I did have to use a screw type hose clamp rather than the green spring clip type though. I will have to get underneath to refresh my memory. KRAFT disease again?

Ron, you are right about the pump inlet/outlet.
I found that I could not fit 1/4in hose onto the tank outlet spouts or the interconnecting pipe - had to buy 5/16 inch braided hose for that.
The 5/16 inch hose from the interconnecting pipe inside the boot, through the hole in the boot floor and into the fuel pump inlet spout fitted well onto the pump.
The pump outlet spout also accepted the 1/4 inch hose to join onto the car's main line (1/4inch) to the front.
The plastic spouts in SU pumps seem to be a midway size between 1/4 and 5/16 inch. Just measured them.
This seems to allow both sizes to be connected to the pump, so long as you have a very positive clamp, as Ron said.
