Neither. They were alloy I think. Dented easy.

Mine are part 88G337 - stainless steel.

There's a bit of discussion about this on other forums. In the UK there's mention of early cars being chrome - part 21A72. I don't know if chrome ever made it to Oz. Perhaps on the early 850's.

By the way, all Minis had the same hubcaps (other than the full dress ring Cooper Style). There's nothing unique about those fitted to Cooper S.

Thanks for the info everyone, just I've seen both types in my lifetime, maybe BMC/Leyland mixed and matched over the years in the round nose Mini.

They were all stainless St 24g or 0.6 mm. I have repaired a lot and polished them. Usually the chrome was over bras like the MK moustache mold.

Yes, my 1969 car number 940 had stainless hub caps, & they are still languishing (mangled) in the garage...
