A Shadow Blue YMA2S3 Mini Minor for $50k

It was also an ex general duties police car according to the ad, which makes it rare

Someone commented on the it before the add was removed, but I agree.
The ad read that whole premise that it was a General Duties car was it was blue......
There was nothing else mentioned, no holes anywhere or anything.

Thats poor reasoning as Shadow blue was a colour offered by BMC, any customer could buy a mini in that colour if they wanted. The police used that colour as it was what was offered and was the closest offered to police dept blue as per mini experience magazine. But customers could get that colour also.

I would be wanting more proof before accepting the claim.

Rareness does not equal Value unfortunately, Otherwise mini SS and Sunshines would be outpricing the Cooper S.

I believe the premise was it was a morris duty car with paperwork saying so. I originally wondered if it really was the only morris duty car, as there is are certainly others. It may be because it had documents. It was restored so im not sure where 50k was coming from..

Dunno, but I wouldn't take it for a "blast" anywhere with "single leading brake drums" on the front. "Rifle like" gear changes with a pudding "stirer" gearshift is something I'd like to witness!

Nice to discuss off-line the 850s @ Bathurst...deluxe67...it was a mighty effort in 1963 (sorry, if I have wandered off topic :-) )

Quite a few years ago I bought a Shadow Blue 1967 Mini 850 from KG Engineering when they were still around. I was told back then that it was reasonably rare and was produced as special run of 850’s for the PMG. I’ve got no idea if this was true, but it seemed feasible at the time.
The engine number was 8Y/U/H26491, body number 1449 YMA2S3.
I didn’t see the ad and I’m not saying that this was the car I had, but at $50k, I wish that I hadn’t sold my one.

James.

That would be interesting if the PMG were also asking for Shadow Blue cars. It would make it hard to determine if your car was PMG or Police without the original Passport to Service.

Here are 2 photos of the car. Its a shame he deleted the FB post. There appeared to be lots of interest but no replies to any questions.

It’s a nice looking car, I’d have to dig into the archives to find a photo of my car.
Unfortunately I didn’t get the Passport to Service, but I did have the Drivers Handbook which I still have. Looking at it, it doesn’t have any reference to who originally owned it. Apparently it (or alteast the manual) came from the BMC Dealership - Blackburn Auto Service - 114 Whitehorse Rd Blackburn. The publication number is AKD1174G, I’m not sure if this helps to carbon date it.

Cheers,
James.

The PMG special order for the Morris 850 is below. I’d assume a similar spec for the Mini Minor?

There's a lengthy discussion in this thread. I believe flapper on here has an ex PMG Mini Minor.

My understanding is that PMG 850s/Mini Minors were Birch Grey and NSW Police were Shadow Blue.

I recall Monte claiming to have found a second general duties Mini Minor. I thought there was a photo but I can't find it. He did mention it back in a 2014 post though:

Best news is I have a restored one and a unrestored twin now, only two known survivors

It was really interesting to learn from you a bit of history regarding these cars. Thanks for that. (Sorry if I was off topic also :-) )
