My best mini that still makes me smile to this day was my camino gold 72 clubby 1275 twin 1 1/2 su i flogged it all day every day and done so many things that would lock you up or get the car impounded these days i have own many more including a s at the same time and coopers sprites etc but was still the best one i ever drove my theory is if they are desirable eg a s or gt etc or super original should be left as is but is for eg some who has modded a deluxe with some ugrades to make it fun who cars

That car we could have got in heaps of trouble in lol. It had the 30/70 Watson cam :)
Remember the Falcon incident or the spinout at Largs

Ian,

What on earth had you done to that Mini to keep up with/ beat a GTHO?!

Reminds me of a story about the rally Mini I had in NZ. A mate had just bought a new tricked up EFI Falcon. He convinced me into a drag competition. Beat him by 3 or so car lengths. We had to repeat the exercise about 6 times until he was convinced, same result every time. He got out of the car whinging his $38,000 (cars were crazy prices in NZ in those days) Ford piece of @#%^ can't even beat a bloody Mini! Then he bet me the Mini couldn't do 100 mph (I had no idea if it could or not) so off to the motorway we went. He with another mate in the front, me following behind. Half way over the Auckland Harbour bridge his mate gave me the thumbs up out his window to tell me we were doing a 100! (It was 1 am on a weekday, no one else on the road so completely safe if not slightly illegal!). Chalk up another win for the Mini over his pride and joy @#$% of #@$% $38,000 car as he put it! I have no idea what the final drive ratio on that Mini was but it had a straight cut close ratio gear box and would pull 7500 rpm seemingly effortlessly.... (probably because the gbox was so noisy you couldn't hear the poor engine screaming it's guts out!)
Not so long after, he sold the Ford and bought a used V6 Alfa, now that thing could go!
Note: The other friend in the Ford had at the time a Fiat 125T, a model designed purely for racing. Think they only made them in NZ. That car went like the clappers, sadly it was pinched never to be seen again... They were bright yellow and had twin Dellorto's, think 200 were made? Would be worth a fortune now....

I still want to know all about Ian's GTHO beating Mini!!
Winabbey, I hope you're not appalled, this all happened many years ago when we were young and silly!? (Early '80's in my case)...

Most of my silliness involved slow speed negotiating walking paths where cars were not meant to be. The pathway connecting the halls of residences to the Uni being one. Once some of my "friends" lifted the car and left it sideways sandwiched between cars in the Uni car park..!
Alcohol was never involved of course! (no breathalyzers in those days)...

If I go very quiet there's a very good chance I broke something.

I got wrapped around a tree in a mate's 850 in 1965, I spent 5 months with a leg in traction and 10 off work. We were run off the road by a git in a Porsche...
