Ok, a little background to this 850 register.. I have a Morris 850 and have become more interested in them over time. I've found it can be hard to find consistent and accurate data on the build numbers, dates, colours etc used over production. There is also the slightly confusing way the data plates were stamped with UK CKD numbers, Aus build numbers, and 8AM & 8Y engines.
The main aim of the register from my point of view is to give a basic understanding of:
How the UK CKD number and the Australian build number relate to each other over time
How the engine numbers changed over time, and the introduction of the 8Y engine in 1964
What colours were available at different times
When cars would have been assembled and delivered
The data for the register has come from numerous sources:
MCC NSW Identification Guide
Service bulletins
Various public websites on the internet (Ausmini, Facebook etc)
Cars for sale (eBay, gumtree, etc)
Generous people who have sent me through data, photos of ID plates
I'm also a little hesitant to put up hundreds of ID plates without knowing that people are OK with having their numbers displayed on a public website. If I've got car details without knowing I have the owners permission I have rounded the car and engine numbers to the nearest 10 units. I think as over 60,000 cars were made having a few little gaps in the data isn't a huge loss (currently the list has just 0.6% of the production run!). If anyone has sent me their data, listed a photo of the ID plate on eBay etc then I've put the data up as is. I'm happy to hear anyone else's opinion on the subject
