Pete - starting by stating the obvious - did the new rivet fit snuggly in the hole before you compressed it? You can check the hole size using a twist drill bit and select a rivet diameter to suit. Would the holes have been enlarged when you drilled the old rivets out? The rivet length only needs to be enough to clamp the two thicknesses of sheet metal.
According to the UK and Australian parts books the rivet is part DXR0408, which is 1/8" diameter and 1/4" long. If you really want the exact specification see the following document.

Thanks Doug
Need to go get the correct rivets to finish the job - I'll put that chart in a safe place for the future.
Made my fuel breather rivet tool re How too details so looking forward to completing that as well.
I'll use a length of wire through the tube/ rivet/ and breather hole and into the body as a guide to line every up to the correct location. Should work with a gentle tap. Fingers crossed

Pete.
