Today I picked up a air cleaner box to suit twin SU's. The lid on it however is completely smooth. It looks professionally/nicely made. Others I've had have had strengthening ribs and depressions where the wing nuts go through. Could this one be original or an earlier variety?

Thanks,
James.

I have 1 that looks the same or very similar. No idea of its heritage or what it had been fitted to.

Looks too nicely made to be home made but not as nice as a Cooper S type.

Looks home made to me? they only turned the lip on the straight sections so not pressed by machine and the UK all have the strengthening ribs pressed in.

It's a bit of a coincidence there's more than one the same. My bets on aftermarket, they made stuff like that in the sixties.

Interesting. My initial thoughts were that it was home made, but when I look at it, it really seems to be made too well and is too consistent - that's not to say that people can't make good consistent examples at home. The rolled edge goes all the way round unlike the one on eBay. Strangely the bottom half of my one is chrome plated too.

The lid is just a piece of flat metal home made and only turned over on the 2 flat edges.
