Hi, I know this has been answered in the past. I did a search but couldn't find an answer.

What is the best way to store a Mini gearbox out of the car.
As it isn't sealed like other gearboxes and the internals are open to the air, I don't really want any of the internals to get rusty.

I did have it kept inside but the new girlfriend insists it can't stay on the dining room table anymore.

My spare gearbox has a sheet of plastic on top secured by a few cable ties.

Put a sheet of clear glass over it and use it as a coffee table. Win win for both parties.

I've had an S box wrapped in a plastic bag on the shelf in my garage for many years.

Our company has used this successfully
https://www.rocol.com/products/five-yea ... protective

If you download their brochure it states that it doesn't usually need cleaning off before use. But I would check first when the time comes !

Valvoline Tectyl is excellent for storage protection, just liberally spray item, clean or dirty, and when dry its like a waxy coating. Washes off with degreaser/kero when ready to reuse. You can get it at repco, bursons or even super crap auto sell it. Cheap(ish) to buy and really works. I've seen parts stored for 25years and still like new.
