Why don't people use anti corrosion coolant in minis? Seems simple enough and saves corrosion blocking the radiator. This only works after the motor has been rebuilt and a new radiator fitted of course.

I dropped a shorter diff in- it's now a 3.64 with 10: wheels. It storms up hills in 4th like a demon now. But it probably won't do 150 in 3rd gear any more..

It's often not corrosion blocking the radiator. It can also be old casting sand freeing itself over time....

yeah i was pulling 6k in 4th gear on the freeway for a short section the other day, it pulls effortlessly, really needs 5th gear or sommit..
my old deluxe used to have a 3:76 diff, and that was more fun to drive, used to get over 90mph all the time

i do appreciate the lower cruising revs of my clubby though.

My 1098 was awesome on the highway. 4000rpm to do 100kph, accelerated to 5000rpm (130) to overtake really well, no problems there. Not so good at overtaking from 80kph, took a bit of time to build up steam in 4th. Moral of the story, don't slow down to 80, keep the revs up :)

130kph is 5000rpm? No wonder mine stops accelerating around 140-145... Really gotta figure out why the tacho ain't working.. *grin*

Mine's a stocko 1098 with a Dellorto 45 and runs too cold on the highway!

Like last night I ran for about 1 hour from my place to Dr Mini's place and back again going up M4 (90km/h), right at James Ruse (70Km/h) then onto the Cumberland (90km/h) and it never got 3mm above dead cold :?

I ran at 4000rpm average the whole way (cept at the speed trap on James Ruse

I run with a Matic fresh air heater so I am guessing this is why. Must remember to plug it up with a cloth when i run at night in winter

I am contemplating NOT putting in an oil cooler for the 1275 build. With the Matic heater and a good clean radiator it's hard to overheat the engine in all honesty... even in the middle of summer...

Does you gauge work properly?
My engine runs at a similar temperature regardless of what it's like outside.

Chong, an oil cooler is more to stop the oil from breaking down and it helps with the gearbox shredding the oil in it's gears constantly, they really don't lower the temperature that much, unless your on the freeway..they do SFA if your not moving..

My 1430 sits around 70-75 whilst driving, and goes up to 85 after I turn the car off.

Yeah the gauge works properly. If I sit still for more than 5 mins it will go up to half way. The most I've had it is boiling (full heat) when I had the wrong radiator cap installed.

Trust me, it's COLD running 100km/h at night up to the Hills

What does a oil cooler do other than cool oil Josh?? It doesn't filter oil... Doc's not running his at the moment on Haha, he'll only put it in for wakefield pk or maybe when summer comes around. Oil coolers were put in back in the 60's when oil broke down at 80 or 90 degrees or whatever. These days oil breaks down at more like 180 degrees or some huge number like that so there should be no worries about oil brake down... I could be wrong though...

It doesn't do anything other than cool the oil and add capacity, but the cooler oil does not lower the engine temperature dramatically and although oil these days is alot better and less susceptable to breaking down, i think that because it's used as a gearbox lubricant, mini's still have a tendancy to break it down alot faster so the oil cooler would help with that.
