Hi all,
Having replaced a pinion bearing in my AYA6001 rack I now need new shims to about 0.005"
Anybody have any to spare??
As well as that does anyone get to fussed with the damper adjustment? I was just going to put it together as is as I can't see how I can measure the gap according to the workshop manual, especially using a urethane bush which is quite sticky...
Thanks
Jon
John Smidt has the shims for both the pinion and the rack preload damper.
Put it together without the wave washers. Add enough shims until you can just move it end to end without it binding. Use as few as possible.
Then fit the 2 new wave washers.
I use loctite 515 on the shims to prevent oil leaks.
Use oil not grease. Then the bearings don't rust. I use 85/140 Castrol LSX or Nulon equivalent. 200mL.
