The owner of the car in 1967, from whom it was stolen, was John Millyard (see The Mini Experience Issue 15).

When I interviewed John in 2008 he said that when the car was stolen obviously there was a police report done, which contained all the relevant numbers. However, over the past years, John had looked for the paperwork on numerous occasions, without success.

It is unlikely that the numbers will ever be known.

And yes, the car was originally white, painted green for 1966 and back to white before being sold to John for 1967.

But...just to put another perspective on it...when I went to Ultimo Police in the late 1960s to report a stolen motorcycle (It had just happened within a couple of hours)...the fella said "Whaddyawantmetahdo?" and "cars and bikes get stolen all the time".

I (naively/foolishly) asked if they could put out a message on the radio...."Nah we don't do that"...

Just a guess but would "Freedom Of Information" get the info from the cops?

Can it ever truly be found (if it still exists) if the relevant id numbers are unknown?!

My Mini dream is to one day find one of John's Mini "K erised" Cooper S's. Somebody's got them!

If John Millyard was to approach the Police he would be the only one able to get the info as the complainant. Freedom of information does not extend to an ongoing investigation. If John was wise he would get the numbers, check the Cooper Register on here and hopefully for him, have the Police go around and pick up his nicely restored car from whoever has it in their garage. Alternatively sit back and wait for some sucker to attend the motor registry trying to get rego on their freshly restored Cooper S.
If John Millyard had any brains he would never publish those numbers but do the investigating himself, sit back and hope it comes to light.

In all fairness the numbers if know should be released. How would you feel if you had to give away your $30,000 restored cooper :(
At the very least if someone has it (unregistered) they can strip their parts off it and then return/surenender the body to the owner.
Or Idealy come to an agreement and buy it from the owner or sell it back at cost of the restoration to be fair.

It'll be very very difficult for even the rightful owner to get the info from the police. Records from 1967 will be buried if they even still exist. Everything is now digitally stored and the back capture of info didn't go back very far at all. This was in the mid to late 80's as the NSW Police computer systems were modernised. I'd be pretty certain the RTA ( now RMS) would be much the same.

Not sure about 13C but the Melbourne Museum has a 997 Cooper in its collection.

When I had that car at my house for two weeks back in 2001 it was registered with that plate. The Bathurst Museum kindly loaned me the car for the OZ Mini 40 show The Mini Owners Club Queensland held at Lakeside Raceway.
We had Bob Holden up as guest of honour and he did several laps of the track in it.
