I am still new to the prospect of doing up the mini.

Bought a big collection of parts of ebay for $2,400. Including:
1275 block, in need of a rebore
Cooper S gearbox, Mint
8.4 discs
front and rear subframes (not the hydrolastic ones)
10"contestas
and 66 deluxe shell an need of serious love and care

came with other parts like radiators and windows... I think I did ok. there was most of the car there, and the only bits i need are little or cosmetic. Did i get it for a good price?

The thing that is causing me huge grief at the moment is what kind of carbs to put on her. At the moment i have a single 1 1/2 inch SU and a collection of standard manifolds. I think i should do the upgrade, but i am not sure what to go for.

Keeping in mind that this block is said to have been bored and stroked to about a 1400cc (haven't got it measured yet, will let you know) what kind of carbs should i be running. I am not goingto be racing her, so i dont need massive power, just something nice. She will be recieving a set of LCB's and a new exhaust system. thats the other thing, what specs should i be looking for in the exhaust department?

I know this is long, so i will end it here...

perhaps i lied about the brakes, they fit in my 10" rims, so does that mean they are 7.5's???

I'll post some pics of her when i get the chance

a 1400 would need a 45DHLA dellorto or a 45 DCOE weber or 1 3/4 SU as far as I recall

If the block has been bore out large enough for a 1400 and it needs a rebore I think you are out of rebores  Doc was saying in another thread that they don't make the the 74mm pistons any more(1400 uses 74mm pistons) biggest is 73.5mm. Mind you if it has been stroked as well then your piston sizes might be smaller, but as I understand it stroking the 1275 can be expensive and more complicated so most are just bored out. my fingers are crossed for you

Doc might tell you more...

8.4" disks don't fit under 10" wheels so it probably means you have 7.5" S disks (just measure the diameter) there are also 7" disks but these are less common

Hope this helps

I would go with a Weber 45DCOE as fuzzy said.

The brakes will be 7" or 7.5" if they fit in the Contessa mags. What condition are the brakes in? Can you post pics of what you got?

Sorry to be the barer of bad news, but at $2,400 for that collection, I would say you got done. I would have paid maybe $1,200-$1,500 max for that lot.

A 1275 bored and stroked to 1400 and in need of a rebore would be on the verge of a throw away. That being said, it depends on how much they stroked it. You *might* be lucky and be able to take is back to a standard crank and have enough meat left for a rebore. I am guessing it is a stroked 1360 or 1380. If it is 1380, you are stuffed. Then again, it may not need a rebore at all.

Whether a block has a stroker crank or not doesn't affect the bore, what matters is what bore diameter it is, and whether it is worn. If already out to 74mm and has bore wear, I'd be looking for another block...

$2900 there alone and then by selling the stuf he dont need hmmm think about your statement morph

I'd go for twin 1 1/2 SUs
As far as the bore goes wait till you measure it.
Now I'll get shot down-----------What's wrong wit resleaveing it?

It depends whether it's really a 1400 or a 1380, and whether it was offset bored. There's normally less metal between 2-3 than the others (regardless of bore size) if it's just been straight bored.
I've seen `offset bored' 1380s get resleeved, but anything bigger there's probably just not enough metal between any of them.
Sleeves have to be a press-in fit (read... takes several tons force) and it's awful thin between bores 2-3.
I saw a 1380 recently that couldn't be resleeved because of this- it hadn't been offset.....

As I said, the block hasn't been measured. The guy i bought it off said it was "about 1400) so i have no idea what it actually measures in at. It does need a rebore, if you stick your fingers into 4th cylinder (radiator end) you can feel the grooves from a ring snapping. there is 2 grooves each about 15 - 20mm long. The guy i bought it off said he thought a 20 thou bore would fix it, not quite convinced though.

I'll be doing some work on her over the weekend, so i'll take a camera and show you what i got for my lousy $2,400.

Mate, I'd be looking for a new block. If it's not an S block with side tappet covers, forget it! Sleeving will be big $$$$ and it may not be achieveable in the end.

Just go find another 1275 block from any 1100S with caps for $100 or whatever. Even

For $2400 without the block is still a bargain. I am finding it very hard to find a set of discs brakes for under $1200  so that's half the money right there. Let me know if you want to part with those by the way

That's what I'd do...

There's a poll here on fave carbies:
http://forums.ausmini.com/viewtopic.php?t=9394

The Doc recommends the Dellorto 45, so you'd best go with that

I just re-read your post where you said it had been bored and stroked to 1400.
If so, this would mean it's probably only at +.060" overbore, so you could still bore it to 73.0 (+.095") or 73.5mm (+.115") before the block is too thin.

Don't keep us all in suspense.. get a vernier and measure it! 8)
