I just bought a 12g202 head for my 1100, as i had the 2a629 on my car, and i was wondering how much i will have to shave off the head so that the CR will be good.
Is there any specific amount that anyone knows of from experience, and what is the most that I can shave of so as to avoid big problems involving valves hitting piston tops?

Another question I've got, with the valve rockers, on the presses steel type, is it possible to change the actual tappet that hits the valve? :?:

I believe that 50thou is about the norm off a virgin head, but you might want to get the good doc to confirm this..

You can take around .100" off a 202 head usually, any more and they are too thin in the deck.
I would limit it to .080" for reliability.
Original thickness was 2.750" approx, check before decking it.
Standard valves will not hit the piston tops with this head.

Those pressed steel rockers have a hardened insert at the valve end. If worn it gets refaced, not replaced.
If doing them up, replace the shaft and bushes if worn.
These rockers are good, better than the sintered powdermetal ones used from mid-70s on.

Before you chop the head, consider doing the sc12 supercharger conversion. You can save the head machining and will end up with a more comfortable ride with buckets of torque and a smooth idle.
