Looking at getting my roundie shell sand blasted ... how much should i expect to pay?

i can pour a bucket of sand over it for 20 bucks including the sand :lol: :lol:

Perhaps it would be better bead blasting as i have heard rhumours saying that after sandblasting there isnt much mini left as they used bog from factory :( :(

bead blasting and sand blasting ... other then the obvious of using beads and sand to blast the car, whats the difference?

Glass or plastic beads?

They both tend to remove the paint but are not as abrasive & dont take off as much of the parent metal. Glass beading is used on parts & tends to polish the surface.
Plastic bead blasting is cheaper than glass beading & will give a good clean surface.
Both are more expensive than sandblasting. Sandblasting is fine if done right, with a nice fine grit.

just had my van body sandblasted with garnet at vintage & classic auto blast , turned out fantastic really happy with the job andy done," that man is a down right legend" highly recommend him to anyone :D

I had a renault bodyshell glass bead-blasted over 10 yrs ago, and it cost nearly $700. I recko n it would be $1000 now, but ring for a quote. It is gentler and more preferred than sand-blasting per se as others have mentioned

The place who did it was Impact Glass Blasting in Romford Place Blacktown (just off Sunnyholt Rd).

The other alternative is dipping to chemically strip. Redi-strip in Bessemer St Blacktown (again, off Sunnyholt Rd). I had guards, bonnet, doors etc chemically stripped by them and they also came up really well. They can do whole bodyshells also. There also used to be a similar place in Revesby I think, but I haven't delt with them.

Word of warning - Either if done properly, will take every bit of paint off. At the factory, they quite often dipped the shells to let paint run into the nooks and cranny's, then traditionally spray painted the rest. Once you start spraying a bare shell at home, it is hard to get paint into some of those places again. Everyone talks about "bare-shell" resprays & resto's. That's not always the best for the car in the long run. Fortunately, a mini shell is probably easier in that respect than a lot of other cars.

so what would be the best way to sand a shell back???
random orbital sander, paint stripper, sand blasting ????

Quickest & most efficient - sand blasting.

Smelliest = paint stripper. Put gladwrap on it to hold the fumes in, it works much better. 8)
