Ok, update time.

Turbosmart Vee Port Type 2 BOV fitted and no vacuum leaks :) Working great.
Havnt rebuilt the carby yet... might not need to.

Have to dump the oil from the dashpot and put in something thicker... the piston is lifting too quick and leaning her out.

Will go on the rollers for a tune next week... after trying thicker oil.
Might need to retard timing a bit as it growls alot especially coming onto boost - but will sort that on the rollers.

Interior getting there
Dash - Tick
Front door cards - Tick
Rear door cards - Tick
Park brake cover - Tick
Need to do the parcel shelf, roof, etc
Interior light packed it in, not sure whats going on there, will sort soon.

Wheels still not done
Central locking setup is complete and working great (as it was before)

Brakes need adjusting, new rear drums and Cooper S pistons are all bedded in now, but might still have air in the system... unsure, need to bleed and test.

Rear camber brackets still to go on, and then align everything nicely.

Forgot to fit the metal cased fuel filter  better do that asap as the 3psi rated plastic one can explode - Battery + Fuel = disaster

Think I need to soft mount the exhaust on some rubbers, can feel it alot through the body of the car...

Waiting on slides for passenger seat then will fit that properly.

Some of the guages need wiring up (lights in them, etc)

Getting there, now its all the small sh*t to do really.

Cheers,
Pete

If thicker oil does not work it may need a stronger spring (Or even two springs, an inner and outer)

Thanks, ill get a thicker spring if need be, the N/A motor needed a much thicker spring, thats for sure... will see how oil goes, in this weather its worse as its so cold.

Yeah Chris, maybe, but dont hold your breath hahaha

I think the spring will do the trick.

I had to go to the stiffest HIF44 spring, even still though, goes lean for a moment under load. But a hell of a lot better than standard.

I went from whatever standard was, (yellow maybe, it was a lot less stiff than the new), to a green spring. 2 springs is generally speaking the way to go.

Find out what the UK guys are using (turbominis  ), it might be different since your carby is on the other side of the blower to mine but probably fairly similiar.

Ok, got my hands on a very $$ Lambda sensor :)

Lambda Sensor A/f readings.

Idle when warmed up ~14
Cruising ~14.5
Shifting with boost or without ~15-18
On boost ~12-13
Off boost ~14
When cruising (part throttle) then floor it, spikes up to 18 possibly more

So, looks like the theory is right... leaning out and causing flat spots.
Ill rip off the dashpot, dump the oil thats in it, replace with something heavier and then test again... if still no joy, the spring will be upgraded or ill add 2 springs.

Also, might need to retard the timing a bit as its very growly especially coming onto boost... but the thing wont run with anything less. Ill get the readings for timing on the weeked. With tests, etc.

Pete.

same kind of problem us people running the blowers are having

im gonna go back to one spring because i think the two springs were binding preventing the piston from raising fully

Peter, I also get a very simillar thing with mine remember when boosted even 14 is a little too lean 13.5 to 12.5 is ideal.
i bet yours is like mine and jumps around a little too, i am playing needles again today small amounts at a time with a fine file

Ok lads (and ladette's watching)

Sorted!
The carb is now running 20w 50 motor oil and has absolutely floored me. There is no more flat spot, no more slingshot effect... but there is a problem with traction

Slowing down the piston has fixed the prob. A/F readings are not going over 14now at any stage... and basically sits on around 12-13.8 most of the time (dips a couple times to 11's and has had an occasional spike) but its all good!!!!!!

Still playing with timing and stuff, but cant wipe the smile off my face.
Never had more people catch up and wave and give thumbs up and scream - "is that a turbo" - not that I like much attention but I have been testing it on the road (NOT like an idiot, rather sensibly) and people still hear the BOV and stuff...

Anyhow, ill upload some pics of the latest additions soon.

Stay tuned, if all goes to plan, a couple more goodies being added soon. hehe

Peter

Yeah Grant, GR was saying look at the needle but now with new oil in dashpot its pretty good...

Ok, more info... some more surgery is planned for Monday 7th... that should see her complete and sorted.
I have been speaking to GR (Grant, same thing as you said) and we both agree that thicker oil (especially) 50 weight is really masking the problem. The needle needs to be sorted. Might mean custom or tweaking or replacing it completely.

Rolling road tune is booked in, so we will play with needles and stuff then.

Ill put up info and pics asap...

Peter
