>Rude< I would clean out the wheel boxes and tube as the first step and regrease. Take the motor apart if you are confident and check the armature/brushes and bearings. If you have a motor rewinder near by get them to look at it.
You should be able to get it them to work, they used to when the car was new. Many sparkies aren't interesting in doing work on things, just replace with new.
I changed mine after I was told I would need 2-speed by a guy that had a turbo already (zakspeed check fast 4's july/aug 91)
