Can anyone point me in the direction of regulations for updated seats and seatbelts for a Mini..?? I wanted to upgrade mine to seats out of a 1996 Daihatsu Charade (they are suitably small enough to still let you see out the back of the car) and retractable seat belts. Is this something that permittably you can do yourself or is it a NSW RTA Regulated "Authorised fitter" only sort of job..?? :?

I put 2 `Klippan' K1512 retractable belts in the front of my `70 Mini.
Listed for Mini- all models.
Only problem was the reel mounting plate was a bit long, so I drilled another hole in it.
As long as you use the original mount points there should be no worries.

re the legality of seat mounts- I'm not sure. I made some to fit Alfa seats to the original Mini brackets, I had no problem getting rego pink slips for the last 6 years.

I've now mounted a Cobra Trophy seat onto another subframe using the original Mini mount brackets. Bolts are all hi-tensile Unbrako cap screws. It's way more rigid that the Alfa ones were, so I don't expect any problem. 8)

Hi

I also went the Klippan way in my 1967 deluxe.
K1512 wuth 300mm stalks for the front. No probs fitting myself. I didn't redrill the steel extension, just layed it forward to clear the doors.

Also put retratables in the back for the kids part no K2256, which are horizonal mount, work similar to the clubbie belts, from the centre and clip on to the side. Just needed to shorten up the buckles a bit and turn around the mounting so they were straight. Work a treat. Also had to drill a few holes.
To look really good, get reel covers part no 11993. :) :D
DOT was no probs.

If you want better instructs on the rear belts, email me.

Craig

Available from Robbos Spares or most of the others, if they don't have they can get.
I think you can buy online too from Klippan, try a Google search. 8)

I got mine from Repco......... how easy is that!!!

Retail each front belt $110.99
each rear belt $122.99
covers for the rear reals $10.99
That was 12 months ago

Cheap if they save your life

Ring around the auto stores, your sure to get them cheaper, I did.

sorry for the thread revival

Does anyone have any issues with:

a: the door pockets hitting the retractors?
b: the retractors not releasing the belts unless on a perfectly flat surface?

I had no problems with mine Ryan. If I remember I'll take a pic tonite and check what model I used.

The only problem I had was that sometimes when the door got closed the door pocket would "tug" the belt and cause it to lock. Over time they have become less sensitive to this happening. Drivers side never does it now.

They are ok as far as not locking on slopes and the klippan ones I have don't hit the door.

Klippan retractors, I originally bought them from MiniKing a couple of years ago.

I think would be this one with a tunnel mount stalk. Not sure what belt length though. Probably Short or standard.

Door pocket clears no problem. Note reel can be angled back slightly so webbing lines up properly with b pillar mount.

I've got the same as Phillb above. These work no dramas, and don't foul the door pocket. I also found it necessary to bend The black metal bracket the belt runs away from th door to help it clear.
